The Linnets were formed in 1918 and played their first season in the Lancashire Combination. As the war was just drawing to an end, the league was played in 2 sections, Liverpool and Manchester. Not all fixtures were completed and the following season The Linnets left to join the Cheshire League. The team also won the Lancashire Junior Cup in that season.
