Niall Watson

Position : -Forward

The 18-year-old striker or winger joined just before the start of our inaugural EVO-STIK League campaign, on loan from League One side Accrington Stanley for whom he made three first-team league and cup apoearances, all as a sub, as the Lancastrians won promotion in 2017-18.

He has close family ties to the Linnets as father Liam was formerly a player with (and manager of) our predecessor club Runcorn AFC/Runcorn FC Halton.

Niall, like his dad, possesses an excellent turn of speed and has a real eye for goal, being top scorer for Accrington's Youth team, after being unearthed while playing in Sunday League football.

His first-team debut for Stanley came, aged 17, last September in a home Football League Trophy home victory over Middlesbrough U21s.

Niall's League debut followed with a 76th-minute introduction at Exeter City in November.

He also appeared for the first team at Grimsby Town, just before New Year, and earned a first professional contract, signed this summer.

Niall had a loan spell in the EVO-STIK's Premier Division last season.

He made four appearances for Marine, another club which dad Liam, now managing Southport, served during his playing career.

Niall was recalled by Accrington in the last week of November 2018, having made a dozen Linnets appearances, starting seven games.

Runcorn Linnets would like to thank Tracy & Mark who has kindly sponsored Niall Watson.
