04 Nov 2017 : Danny O'Brien takes October's Millbank Player of the Month award at Runcorn Linnets

Danny O'Brien has been rewarded for his consistently high performance levels with the Millbank Player of the Month Award for October at Runcorn Linnets.

Danny could be described as a football manager's dream - someone who can not only be relied upon to get on with his job week in, week out but also does it extremely well.

A regular in the side since arriving at Runcorn Linnets in the summer of 2016, as a central midfield player, he has converted to the right full-back role and is now firmly established as first choice in that position while continuing to go about his work in an unfussy, unhurried and unheralded way.

But his more than worthwhile contribution is appreciated by all at The Millbank Linnets Stadium, not least his manager Michael Ellison and team-mates, who can rest assured he will do the business required with a great deal of skill and efficiency.

The former Cammell Laird 1907 player has been in fine form. He never seems to get flustered and is a master of the interception, invariably stopping rivals in their tracks when they try to make progress down the Linnets' right flank.

Danny is also strong going forward with the ability to supply telling crosses and in the month in question has added yet another string to his bow by chipping in with an invaluable goal in two successive matches.

These were his first goals of a season which has brought him just one caution in 18 appearances up to the end of October.

It should also not be overlooked that Danny has clearly been carrying a knock in recent games but with playing resources already stretched to breaking point (by injuries, suspensions and unavailability), he has in all cases and in common with a few others in the team shown the resilience to report fit for the next.

Danny's corners are already a key part of the Linnets' weaponry so to score directly from one such situation in the penultimate game of the month, at home to Barnoldswick Town, was in many ways a bonus.

Five days earlier, it had been a nerveless penalty kick from the full back that had helped Michael Ellison's men on the road to Vase success against Team Northumbria in a midweek home replay.

Opening a 3-0 advantage on the night, it was to eventually give Runcorn the edge as the Tynesiders fought back with two goals of their own.
