10 Nov 2019 : Halton's Mayor joins Cheshire Regiment veterans and Runcorn Sea Cadets for Linnets' Remembrance ceremony

RUNCORN Linnets welcomed the Mayor of Halton and her consort to The Millbank Linnets Stadium for their Remembrance Weekend match against Prescot Cables.

Councillor Margaret Horabin and Mr Carl Horabin joined a crowd of more than 400 at Saturday's Buildbase FA Trophy 2nd Round Qualifying Round tie in observing the customary one minute's silence and The Last Post before kick off.

Wreaths were laid by Linnets club captain Kyle Hamid, Under 9s player Luke Whittaker on behalf of Runcorn Linnets Juniors and Runcorn Sea Cadets.

Officers and members of the sea cadets took a collection in aid of the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.

Linnets supporter Tom Doyle, from Halton branch of the RBL, had helped to co-ordinate the ceremony which was organised by Josh Christian, a Trust Board member at Runcorn Linnets.

Cheshire Regiment veterans accompanied the sea cadets in marching out the teams.

The football club's wreaths are to be laid at Runcorn Cenotaph this afternoon as part of the borough's official Remembrance commemorations.

The cup-tie derby was drawn 1-1 and will be replayed at Prescot this Tuesday (November 12th).
