Byrne on board to bolster back line

Runcorn Linnets have strengthened in defence by capturing Jack Byrne from Stalybridge Celtic.
The signing reunites the centre back with Michael Ellison, who managed the player at Widnes during their 2024-25 title-winning season in Pitching In Northern Premier League West.
The 24-year-old made 48 appearances for Stalybridge in 2025-26, starring in their Play-off semi-final against us.
He also played on the opening day of this season, when we beat Celtic at APEC Taxis Stadium.
Jack enjoyed three spells at Widnes, initially teaming up on loan from AFC Fylde in 2022-23 before transferring to DCBL Stadium in July 2023.
He had stints with Lancaster City and Hyde United in NPL Premier but returned to Widnes in January last year. He had 71 outings for the Black & Whites overall.
Jack came through the Under 18s at AFC Fylde, earning his first professional deal for the 2020-21 campaign and was recontracted in May 2022.
While at the Lancashire club, he was loaned to Lancaster, Kendal Town and Bromsgrove Sporting.
Jack has started in 11 matches for Stalybridge this season and been an unused substitute three times.
A warm welcome to Runcorn Linnets, Jack!
