Highly-rated full back Joe Ferguson shakes on new deal at Linnets

If Brad Cooke pulled off a coup in February by signing Joe Ferguson, securing the player's services for the season ahead will be seen as a masterstroke.

The 22-year-old attacking right back has been a revelation even accounting for Runcorn's reputation in signing some top talent in that position such as Ally Brown, Sam Barratt and going further back Michael Duffy and Danny O'Brien.

Joe's power, speed and athleticism enable him to cover the ground quickly whether advancing into opposition territory or going back towards his own goal.

His crossing ability and tackling prowess mean he is the complete package at No.2 and he even came up with the club's 2024-25 Goal of the Season.

Joe's overhead equaliser in the 3-2 comeback victory over Stalybridge Celtic topped the voting in an online poll.

Understandably, fans have been pinning their hopes on Joe being tied down for the forthcoming campaign.

Given the player's ability and form, there will have been options elsewhere,

But the manager has convinced Joe that Runcorn Linnets is the ideal place for him in 2025-26.

Brad Cooke said: "I’m over the moon that Joe has committed. He has been tremendous since we brought him in.

"He is still young and has loads more to come.

"A fantastic player and brilliant lad, it's a big season for him and his development. He is a lad capable of playing at the highest level of non-league.

"He is a real fans favourite and this signals our intentions."

Joe arrived from FC United of Manchester, having been at Blackburn Rovers, Marine and on loan at Witton Albion.

He was Brad's first signing for Linnets with the player arriving six days after the boss, who is more than happy to secure Joe's signature for a second time.
