Seasoned former League Two star is new midfield recruit

Runcorn Linnets' latest midfield signing James Harris brings a wealth of experience to APEC Taxis Stadium.

Jay will play in Northern Premier League West for the first time after spending his entire senior career in higher divisions - enjoying 150 EFL League Two appearances for Accrington Stanley, Chester City, Tranmere Rovers and Macclesfield Town.

Now 39 years old, he is viewed as a natural successor to senior player Ste Irwin, who left in pre-season.

A former youth player at Everton, who graduated to the senior ranks but left without making a first team outing, Jay appeared for Linnets in our pre-season opener against FC United of Manchester.

The 5ft 7in central midfielder had most recently served Warrington Town in NPL Premier and National League North.

Jay joined them in August 2021 with his 170 league and cup appearances (152 starts) yielding 18 goals.

Valued for his leadership and workrate, Jay had been an FA Trophy winner in 2013 with Wrexham and returned to Wembley with the Red Dragons a year later as a runner-up in the same competition.

Jay spent seven seasons across two spells with Wrexham in Conference/National League Premier and in 2012-13, he was awarded a place in the Conference Premier Team of the Year.

After joining Tranmere Rovers for 2019-20, the player achieved back-to-back promotions from National League Premier and EFL Two.
