Under 21s forward Fin fits first-team bill - in defence

Versatile Finley Ryan has been promoted to the first-team squad after impressing in pre-season friendlies.

The 19-year-old joined our Under 21s midway through last season to play in attack - although Michael Ellison has utilised Fin at left back, having spotted his potential at training.

Fin lives in Widnes and attended Wade Deacon School, where staff recommended him for Cheshire Under 16s selection.

Our U21s boss Ste Ellams managed the county side but Fin was unavailable for the trials, so unfortunately missed out.

However, the player stayed on the radar, spending three years in the youth ranks at Vauxhall Motors (from the age of 15) and last season in open-age football for hometown team Parklands in the Cheshire League.

Nine U21s appearances in 2025-26 (five of them starts) brought Fin one goal with four assists.

He starred in all positions across the front line.

Fin's key attributes are his close control in tight spaces, intensity, aggression out of position and fitness. He also possesses a sweet left foot.

It is great to see Fin taking his chance to step up.

He will, of course, continue to be eligible for our North West Under 21s League side, which since relaunching two years ago has had success in terms of results and trophies but just as importantly player development within the club.
