Runcorn Linnets chairman Peter Cartledge is to step down from the Trust Board at the end of the season and has issued the following statement about his decision:

"After a great deal of thought, I have made the difficult decision to step down as Chairman of Runcorn Linnets Football Club and leave the Board at the end of the current season.

It has been an incredible privilege to serve as Chairman of a club that means so much to me, my family and, most importantly, our supporters and community.

Over the last five years there have been highs, lows, challenges and some unforgettable moments, but throughout it all, the loyalty and passion of our supporters has never changed. I want to sincerely thank every single person who has backed the club, travelled home and away, volunteered their time, sponsored us, supported our fundraising and stood by us through both the good times and the difficult ones.

Thanks to the Board members I have served with during my time as Chairman, you are all superstars.

Runcorn Linnets is a special football club because of the people behind it. I will always be proud to have played my part in its journey.

On a personal level, I could not have done this without the support of my family. In particular, I want to thank my wife Katie and my kids. Being Chairman of a football club demands far more time and energy than people sometimes realise, and they have supported me, encouraged me and made sacrifices throughout the last five years. I will always be grateful to them for allowing me to give so much of myself to the club.

This decision has not been an easy one, but I believe the end of the season is the right time for me to step aside and allow someone else to take the club forward into its next chapter.

Until then, my commitment remains exactly the same. There is still plenty to do, and I will continue to give everything I can to Runcorn Linnets until my final day as Chairman.

To our supporters, thank you. Your loyalty, passion and belief in this football club have meant more to me than I could ever properly put into words.

It has been an honour and a privilege to be your Chairman."
