Midfielder Francis Smith is boss's first signing

Jacques Welsh has made his first acquisition since being formally appointed as player-manager of Runcorn Linnets.

He has signed defensive midfielder Francis Smith from Prescot Cables.

Franny joins the club after three and a half years at Prescot, where he he was a mainstay of their side in the No.6 position.

The 31-year-old had been recruited by our NPL West neighbours from Sunday football in his native Liverpool at Home Bargains FC.

He was one of manager Ste Daley's initial signings in March 2023.

Franny is especially noted for his expertise from free-kicks, which have brought him some menorable goals.

He is also renowned for his tenacity and passing ability.

Franny is a former NPL West promotion winner, having featured 39 times in Prescot's 2023-24 Play-off campaign, appearing off the bench in their final victory against City of Liverpool.
