Demolition experts S Evans and Sons bring down storage cabin to help with fan zone plans

Supporters may have spotted a welcome change on the landscape around APEC Taxis Stadium with the demolition of an old storage cabin.

After years of standing firm through wind, rain and countless matchdays, the unit next to the old brick changing rooms had become an eyesore and needed to come down.

The site is now clear - thanks to Widnes demolition specialists S Evans & Sons, who stepped in to carry out the work free of charge.

Although they were initially approached to quote for the job, S Evans recognised Linnets as an important part of its local community in Halton and very generously offered their assistance.

The building has now been safely removed and the site cleared ready for the next phase in the club's plans to create a fan zone in the area where the cabin stood.

Three of the team from S Evans & Sons spent a day on site demolishing the cabin, using a seven-tonne excavator.

They were in turn supported by their asbestos contractor Intelligent Environmental Services Ltd, who carried out an Redevelopment and Demolition survey, again free of charge, before the work started.

It meant the club had only to meet the cost of the disposal.

Bren Connolly, Trust Board member at Runcorn Linnets, said: “The guys have done a fantastic job and we’re absolutely delighted.

"We look forward to welcoming the S Evans team to one of our matches for some hospitality for a job well done.

"A massive thank you for making it happen.”

Jordan Sumner from S Evans said: “When we can, we always like to support community projects – either close to our headquarters in Widnes or in the areas where we have projects.

"We were only too happy to help Runcorn Linnets Football Club.”
