Runcorn Linnets Ladies remain well on course to better last season's fifth-placed finish after again putting Litherland REMYCA Women to the sword.

Sunday's 6-2 win was their second over basement side REMYCA in as many weeks, Linnets having won the home encounter in North West Regional Women's League Division One South 4-1.

Runcorn had suffered a rare league setback in between when losing at Chester Women but comfortably returned to winning ways to consolidate fourth spot in the table.

There will be chance to climb into third on Sunday - victory at Mossley Hill Athletic Ladies would take Linnets two points clear of the Liverpool side with three games still in hand.

Runcorn had led REMYCA 3-0 at half-time, after opening the scoring through winger Ella Connor on seven minutes.

It was a first goal for 18-year-old, signed from Wigan Athletic, in her best and most assured performance in a Linnets shirt so far.

A more familiar scorer, Lile Ashley made it 2-0 in the 16th minute with the prolific Mollie Bennett adding the first of her three goals ten minutes from the break.

Bennett followed up four minutes into the second half, the hat-trick being completed in the 88th minute after substitute Emily Hardman (76 mins) had scored the team's fifth.

Carmel Ayton and Millie Keegan were on target for Litherland.
