Runcorn Linnets opened their pre-season account with a 2-1 win at newly-promoted North West Counties Premier Division side Euxton Villa, writes DAVE BETTLEY
Manager Brad Cooke fielded all six new signings in a good first workout against a side managed by Linnets' record appearances holder Matt Atherton, who already had two friendly outings under their belt.
Before the game, Linnets chairman Peter Cartledge on behalf of the club presented Athers with an honours cap commemorating his 313 games.
The new-look visitors fielded two different outfits - not only changing nine players at half-time but also into their new black and white away kit from their restyled yellow and green.

They had taken a two-goal lead into the interval, scoring with set-pieces at either end of the first half through Harvey Washington at a corner and Adam Rooney from a free-kick. Harvey's goal had initially been credited to Scott Bakkor.
Linnets came close after the break as the number seven, one of four triallists on show, and new midfielder Dec McLoughlin forced saves before Euxton made a late comeback.

They pulled a goal back as a free-kick deflected off Linnets' defensive wall, falling invitingly for the scorer.
A spectacular last-minute save by Bayleigh Passant secured the victory for Runcorn, whose next warm-up match is on Saturday at Hyde United.
