After a very exciting and enjoyable first season at Premier Division level in the North West Development League, Runcorn Linnets U21s can look back with a great sense of pride at our achievements.
We finished in third spot but level on points with runners-up Stalybridge Celtic while competing well against deserving champions Warrington Town over two close and extremely hard-fought matches.
Both were decided by one goal and our 2-1 away victory was arguably the highlight of the season.
Having been league and cup double winners in Championship Division B in our first season after re-forming the U21s, the team, accumulated 14 top-flight wins and a draw from 20 matches while also reaching the semi-finals of the Premier Trophy.
With a mix of existing players and new faces, we have proved more than capable in the higher division and have also successfully integrated more young talent from our junior sides into the squad.
To have been battling for second place until the final day of the season is testimony to the endeavours of manager Ste Ellams, assistant Jono Harrison, coach Adam Moseley and of course the players themselves.
Despite having moved onto Wigan Athletic as a player, 'Mose' has willingly invested his time into helping us to develop the next generation of Linnets players.
We thank all the players, volunteers, sponsors and spectators who have contributed so much over the campaign.
We must bid farewell to a number of footballers, who either exceed the age limit or are moving on to pastures new.
After topping our own scoring charts and winning a second successive Golden Boot in the NW League, Lewis Crane has now signed for Wiiton Albion and we wish Lew and all leaving to take on new challenges the very best.
Among other departures are Macca Clifton, Cam Schofield, Sam Stephens and Arty Benjamin, who have likewise been with us for two seasons and put their stamp on the team.
Arty is returning to London to continue his education, having been a fantastic servant and we wish him every success with his studies.
Cam, Macca and Stevo have likewise been a pleasure to have around and will be missed. Their leadership and professionalism alongside Lew's contribution have set high standards, helping to create pathways which the youngsters will now follow.
We will rest, rebuild and regroup before returning fit and fresh for new adventures in 2026-27.
In the meantime, we wish all connected with the Under 21s a very enjoyable summer and look forward to seeing you when we resume.
