Dave Hankey joins Linnets as first team coach

Runcorn Linnets are delighted to introduce Dave Hankey as our new first team coach.

Dave has extensive coaching experience at home and abroad.

He has been at various professional clubs, most recently serving National League club Oldham Athletic from where he joins our backroom staff.

Excited by the new opportunity, Dave expanded on his coaching background and hopes for success with the Yellow & Green.

He said: "I first got into coaching when asked to help with my son’s grassroots team.

"I have an attitude that if you’re going to do something, do it the best you possibly can so I did my qualifications and as much CPD (Continuing Professional Development) as I could find.

"I was lucky to have had a good mentor initially, who worked in Crewe's Academy.

"After about five years, I found myself being offered my first role at a professional club due to being watched and impressing with how I lead teams when invited in to play games.

"Bolton Wanderers were my first professional club (while they were in the Premier League) as part of their international programme, and over the next few years I was lucky enough to be coaching groups in Spain, Canada, America, Egypt and Colombia.

"Coaching oversees and having to do TV and radio interviews was a great experience and the club also had a great coach education programme, which alongside working with some other great coaches, played a big part in my development.

Dave added: "Over the last 15 or so years. I have worked at all age groups in the Academy system as part of the English EPPP (Elite Player Performance Plan) Development programme at clubs such as Accrington, Bury and most recently as a full-time lead coach at Oldham Athletic's Academy.

Dave says joining Linnets is a "new and exciting path" in his career.

As for his long and short-term goals, he stressed: "They are not mine! they are OURS as a group.

"First, we learn the systems of how Antony wants us to play.

"The boys agree with what Ant has told them. They like the way we want them to play and so far, look to be enjoying it, which is massively important.

"Then the long-term objective - win the league. Number 1

"A good cup run would also be nice, but that’s also a lot about the luck of a draw."

All at the club join in wishing Dave a happy and fulfilling stay at APEC Taxis Stadium.
