Wednesday night saw Linnets Ladies play their first home game of the season as they looked to get their first points on the board after a disappointing result in their opening game.

Both teams played the game in great spirit with some fantastic battles all over the pitch and some great tackles flying in.

Linnets had a couple of good chances in the first half but unfortunately couldn’t convert them. The defence and goalkeeper looked solid though and prevented Woolton from creating too much.

The hosts came out in the second half with the same fighting spirit and midway through the half, great work from Molly Hewitt gave Lile Ashley the opportunity to strike.

She did exactly that, superbly lobbing the keeper on the half volley to put Linnets 1–0 up.

MSB Woolton reacted well to going behind and had a couple of good chances to get themselves back into the game.

However, they were soon punished as an excellent run down the channel and cross from Lily Shakeshaft gave Eva Whimperley the perfect opportunity to head home Linnets' second.

An unbelievable response from Sunday's defeat at Wirral zubited and a proper team performance from start to finish.

There were fantastic performances all over the pitch with everyone giving absolutely everything they had for the cause

Faultless all game and thoroughly deserved the award!

A brilliant first home game and a well deserved three points. 💚💛⚽️
